They were ‘Just Innocent Farmers’: New Videos Reveals Extent of Destruction to Kanabi Settlement

A new video revealing the full extent of the destruction to the Kanabi settlement in Sudan’s al-Jazira state has surfaced, exposing a harrowing look at the devastation and the urgent need for humanitarian intervention.

The ongoing conflict in Sudan has brought renewed suffering to marginalized communities, including the Kanabi, who have long faced discrimination and displacement. A recent report by Middle East Eye highlights how both warring factions have targeted members of this community, exacerbating their already vulnerable status.

According to the report, the Kanabi, primarily agricultural workers of South Sudanese descent, have been subjected to forced displacement, violence, and exploitation. The historical marginalization of the community has left them without legal protections, making them easy targets amid Sudan’s civil unrest.

Humanitarian organizations, including the African Union (AU), UNHCR, and Human Rights Watch, have condemned the ongoing violence and called for urgent intervention to protect vulnerable groups. “The targeting of civilians, especially marginalized communities like the Kanabi, is a grave violation of international humanitarian law,” said a spokesperson for UNHCR.
