Petition for Justice Submitted, But Urgent Action Still Needed for South Sudanese in Sudan

The Global Campaign & Emergency Humanitarian Response for South Sudanese, known as Act4SouthSudanese, in collaboration with local and international civil society activists, has successfully submitted a petition urging an independent investigation into atrocities committed against South Sudanese nationals in Sudan. The petition, signed by nearly 4,000 individuals from more than 50 countries, has been formally delivered to the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for Sudan.

In a press release issued by Act4SouthSudanese—the mobilization platform of the Global Campaign—campaigners expressed deep gratitude to all signatories and supporters who made the petition a success. However, they emphasized that the threat to life for South Sudanese in Sudan remains critical and that immediate action is needed now more than ever.

“The outcry against the crimes committed against South Sudanese has been loud and undeniable. This deafening demand for justice, and the way South Sudanese and others stood together in unity, must be appreciated,” said Apande Bol “A special thanks goes to the social media influencers, human rights defenders, and civil society activists who spoke out and helped make this petition a success. But now, that same energy—or even more—needs to be redirected to tangible action to support those still trapped in Sudan.”

The petition gained traction with the support of social media influencers and activists, who helped amplify the call for justice. Now, the campaign is shifting its focus toward emergency relief efforts, urging the global community to remain engaged.
