Part 3: Buried Without a Name – Death and Dignity in Naivasha Camp Omdurman

For the South Sudanese in Naivasha Camp, death has become as routine as life itself. Hunger, disease, and exhaustion claim new victims each day. In this place where even the living are neglected, the dead are given little more than a makeshift unmarked grave. There are no proper shrouds, no prayers led by elders, no time to mourn. The customs that once honored the deceased have been eroded by sheer survival.

“The graves are shallow because we no longer have the strength to dig deeper,” says one resident. “We do what we can, but even in death there is no rest.”

Despite the impossible circumstances, the people of Naivasha hold on to their dignity. In hushed whispers, they still offer prayers. When possible, they cover their loved ones in the cleanest cloth they can find. Even as exhaustion weighs them down, they take turns to ensure that no one is buried alone.

To die with dignity should not be a privilege, it is a right. Without urgent intervention, even this final act of humanity may disappear.

These people just need a way out, and The Global Campaign & Emergency Humanitarian Response for South Sudanese in Sudan has set up ways on how to help.

Part 4: Nowhere is Safe – Living Under Constant Threat

Inside Naivasha Camp, war isn’t just an outside threat—it has seeped into their daily lives. Armed groups raid homes, stealing the little the refugees have left. With no protection and no authority to turn to, fear rules the night. Every knock at the door could mean violence, theft, or worse. Part 6: A Plea for Rescue – The Urgent Need for Evacuation
